///Artist/ Mirza Čizmić ///Live stream start/ 20:00 — -NO HUMANS INVOLVED- ART IN ISOLATION — During isolation, the gallery Brodac live streams the artist's work from their studio. We want to use the time of self-isolation to ask existential questions: Why are we here today and is there a unity of the world with the problem? What is the response of society to the global common crisis? How does this affect the common human in isolation? What is solidarity in times of crisis, what happens to solidarity after a state of emergency? What does life on the planet look like that can be destroyed with a single click? Do we need a new social contract and what does it look like? Will this crisis prompt us to demand more freedom and a more humane life circumstance or towards greater totalitarianism? ARTIST STATEMENT: My struggle with my background became a major part of my artistic practice — questions such as "Who am I? And what have I become?". As an artist, I must be aware of the illusive borders between art and life, art and society, as well as art and activism. Formalization of my position in contemporary society is connected with constant questioning of dominant politics within art. I aim to break the conventional taboos, depoliticize the situation and bring attention to the humanity of moving people. Painting for me is very much about the content. Specific events of my past have been crucial for my artistic practice. The way I paint is a way of looking at the world, not through my eyes as a painter, but through my experiences. NO HUMANS INVOLVED: As a painter, I wanted to capture landscapes where the place itself is the central subject. I was trying to freeze echoes of human existence. Painting "empty roads" allowed me to have a more direct experience with the image — painting roads when no people are present, no signs of humans in an area where you would expect to see lots of people. The "Empty roads" paintings are dark and heavy; the combination of grey and green colours makes them depressing. Landscape with no light, just a space with no specific outcome. "It's not the landscape that's boring, it's the depictions of it that had become boring" (David Hockney, Van Gogh Museum, 2019). instagram.com/mirzacizmic.mc
